Andrea Tan, Psy.D.

Psychologist in Northfield, Illinois

I work with adults, children, and their families, focusing on trauma, parent-child relationships, life transitions, personal growth, and fostering attunement to oneself and others. I earned my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from Saint Louis University. Before graduate school, I worked as a residential counselor at a residential program. I then obtained my Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University, specializing in Clinical Child and Family Psychology. My professional experience includes providing therapy and psychological assessments in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, a trauma center, a mobile unit, and community mental health centers, working with children, adolescents, adults, and their families.

While your child is the primary client, I collaborate closely with parents to support both the child and the family unit. I believe the parent-child relationship serves as a crucial anchor, shaping a child’s emotional and psychological development. My work emphasizes self-awareness, perspective-taking, and effective communication—whether between parents and children, peers, or siblings. I strive to help children and families gain a deeper understanding of their internal experiences (thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations) and external experiences (behaviors, social relationships, and presenting concerns).

My approach to treatment is goal-oriented yet flexible, warm, and exploratory. I encourage clients to feel empowered in their healing journey and seek to foster understanding and self-growth. By tailoring my work to each client’s unique needs, I aim to create a supportive space where growth, healing, and meaningful connections can flourish.
