Training Overview

Afg Guidance Center’s Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Advanced Therapy and Assessment Training Program for doctoral externs and masters level interns is an integral part of our commitment to ensure individuals seeking mental health services are receiving high quality care that is culturally sensitive and designed to enhance the lives of children, adolescents and their families. Our multidisciplinary staff work together to provide our postdoctoral fellows, externs and interns with opportunities to learn about our said disciplines as well as our differing clinical orientations.

Although our training staff represents a variety of theoretical orientations, there is a shared valuing of experiential, developmental and humanistic approaches to assessment, treatment and learning. Our training program is designed to advance postdoctoral fellows skills and prepare masters externs and doctoral interns to become ethical, culturally and clinically competent clinicians. As a scholar of the art of psychology, Afg Guidance Center externs gain an understanding of diagnosis, work to recognize how their chosen theoretical orientation(s) can be utilize to treat differing disorders as well as gain a working knowledge of new clinical practices presented during supervision and seminars. As a practitioner, each postdoctoral fellow, extern, interns will apply the knowledge gained from clinical theories and implement their knowledge during their assessment and therapy sessions.

Advanced Doctoral and Masters

Therapy and Assessment Practicum

Afg Guidance Center’s Advanced Practicum experience is most appropriate for doctoral and masters students who have completed a diagnostic and therapy placement. This site is for individuals interested in advancing their current clinical skills in a multidisciplinary private practice setting.

Advanced Doctoral Externs and Masters Practicum Interns are required to complete 20 hours per week of on-site training for a 12 month period from July 13, 2015, to June 24, 2016. Responsibilities of externs are to provide individual, family and group therapy services. Externs and interns depending upon their degree also complete Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Screenings, Psychoeducational Evaluations, Social Emotional Evaluations and comprehension Neuropsychological Evaluations. All externs participate in individual supervision, group supervision as well as didactic and specialty seminars.

  • Writing sample of a testing report

Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology

Afg Guidance Center’s Post-Doctoral experience is designed to meet all the criteria required for licensure in the state of Illinois. This site is for individuals interested in advancing their current clinical skills in a multidisciplinary private practice setting.

Post-Doctoral candidates complete required clinical hours on-site training for a 12 month period. Responsibilities of the Post-Doctoral Fellow is to provide individual, family and group therapy services. Post-Docs also complete Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Screening, Psychoeducational Evaluations, Social Emotional Evaluations and comprehension Neuropsychological Evaluations. Additionally, participation in individual supervision, group supervision as well as didactic and specialty seminars is required. Post-Doctoral candidates are also given the opportunity to provide secondary supervision and assessment supervision to advanced doctoral level externs as well as facilitate seminars with the externs.

To Apply For the Post-Doctoral Fellowship

Afg Guidance Center will accept postdoctoral fellowship applications for the 2015-2016 training year on February 2, 2015. We will continue to accept applications until the 1 available postdoctoral position is filled. Applications received after April 6, 2015, will not be considered. The start date for the Postdoctoral Fellowship is September 1, 2015. Interested candidates should email the below information.
